Invitation to Education GenAI Event
Join us for an exclusive online talk with Dr Firat Batmaz on AI Literacy for Educators and Digital Learning Professionals
In April I was fortunate to attend the AI Assurance in Education Workshop at the University of Loughborough, organised by Validate AI and The Operational Research Society. The workshop featured a range of speakers including Dr Firat Batmaz who is the AI in Education Group Leader at the Department of Computer Science at Loughborough University.
Dr Bitmaz delivered an incredibly insightful presentation. The first part of his talk looked at understanding generative AI. This included an in-depth technical overview of the transformer in a generative pre-trained transformer (GPT), a type of neural network architecture used for handling sequence data. He then reviewed their limitations and provided fascinating examples of how GenAI is being used in education. I took several pages of notes in my A5 journal which I still refer back to.
Recognising the value and importance of these talks, I reached out to Dr Batmaz, who has kindly offered to host his talk for educators and learning professionals worldwide. The session is designed to help develop AI literacy and is accessible for those less confident with GenAI as well as helpful to those already familiar with it but who would like to gain more of a technical understanding. Perhaps more useful is his overview of AI in education and its uses. I often feel it is through the sharing of these uses we learn the most.
The talk will be hosted online on Thursday, 11th July at 16:00 BST. It is a free event and I have had to limit the places to 16 due to the licence costs of the platform I am using. This will hopefully be the start of a series. If you’d like to attend as a subscriber to the Class Futures newsletter, please head to the booking page here. I’ll then post it out on LinkedIn, but I wanted to invite you first.
This event is open to educators from all schools, including online schools, virtual schools, and digital learning environments, and learning professionals.
We look forward to seeing you there or at a future one.
