Next Week I'm Asking: How Do We Really Prepare Students for AI?
Live from The AI Summit London | June 12, 13:20-14:00 | Industries Stage
This is the question I'll be exploring when I step away from the classroom to host a panel discussion at The AI Summit in London.
I'm looking forward to exploring this topic with some brilliant minds: Steven Toy (CEO, Memrise), Richard Ogundele MBCS (AI Cloud Engineer, Manchester Metropolitan University), and Dr. Hemachandran Kannan (Associate Dean & Director of AI Research Centre, Woxsen University). Together, we'll be exploring the challenges and opportunities facing students, educators, and industry. The goal? Finding out how we can provide students with the confidence to experiment with AI, build with it, and use it ethically and responsibly - both in their studies and future careers, across technical and creative subjects alike.
What we'll be discussing:
Industry partnerships that actually work - How can we give students proper hands-on AI experience rather than just theoretical knowledge?
Team work is the dream work - What does meaningful partnership between universities and tech companies look like in practice?
The skills balance - How do we ensure students develop both technical expertise and the soft skills that employers actually need?
Keeping pace with change - How do we help students stay relevant when the AI landscape evolves so rapidly?
These aren't just academic questions - they're the challenges many of you are facing in your own institutions and organisations. The conversation should be both practical and solution-focused, the kind where we might reach some conclusions on some of these ongoing issues which I'll be sure to share.
If you're working in education, training, or learning development, I'd love to hear your thoughts on these questions. What strategies have worked for you? What barriers are you facing with using AI?
P.S. The event is part of The AI Summit Series by Informa, and I'm grateful to Caroline Hicks and the team for creating the space for this conversation about AI and education - covering the ethical, practical, and fun aspects that matter most.
If you know of other events looking for panel hosts or facilitators around these themes, I'm always open to connecting - just reply to this email!
